Douglas County, in Central Washington State has one of the highest concentrations of abandoned farm houses and old barns of anywhere in the state.
This series documents the remains of a period of time when the small farmer was the mainstay of our agricultural economy. The owners of these farms thrived in the harsh elements of cold winters and hot summers. Throughout this project, you will modest, small family farm houses all the way to upscale brick houses, along with the barns/windmills that supported their activities.
With larger farms becoming the norm, the small farms were sold off and combined into the larger operations, leaving many rural properties vacant. Gladly, most of these old farm houses and barns have been left to be slowly reclaimed by nature.
This is a select collection of rural landscape photography images from that area that I captured during 2013. I’m now making these images available as affordable black and white fine art prints.
