I've spent many mornings exploring the coastlines of Washington and Oregon, often arriving before sunrise or when clouds and fog soften the light. Some days, the ocean is rough, with waves breaking against the rocks. Other days, the water is nearly still.
I'm drawn to the shapes of sea stacks, the movement of tides, weathered shorelines, and the remains of old docks and pilings. In black and white, I can concentrate on the light, textures, and forms that first caught my attention.
This gallery brings together coastal photographs from the Pacific Ocean, Puget Sound, and the bays and inlets of the Northwest. I invite you to explore the collection and find a scene that stays with you.
The Northwest coast has given me many reasons to return with my camera. Some of these photographs came from familiar places, while others came from stretches of shoreline I was exploring for the first time.
